Launched in 2023, Gram Bella's is a community-focused project space dedicated to providing a safe platform for artists and the community to engage with creativity, self and community — drawing inspiration from the traditional Caribbean yard as a site for intuitive gathering.
We acknowledge the deep-rooted human need to gather — a mutual process of knowing the self and other. The project space facilitates this engagement primarily through a series of dialogues (exhibitions) designed to open critical conversations and reflection, while simultaneously exploring various ways to gather.
Gram Bella's is a substance-free hub hosting community events, workshops, and gatherings reminiscent of the backyard where people gather naturally and without restraint. Celebrating the multiplicity of Caribbean and Caymanian heritage, the space serves as a stage open for possibilities — a site where we remember and navigate embodied care, and creative criticality.
As we celebrate Caribbean heritage in its multiplicity, Gram Bella's is not only a space but a stage open for possibilities. A space where we remember and create practices of care. Practices where the yard space becomes a safe site to navigate embodied care, and creative criticality.
The name Gram Bella's refers to the ancestral owner of the property (Arabella Bodden) who is the paternal great grandmother of the project space's founder, Kerri-Anne Chisholm. The site of the building is where Arabella's backyard and caboose were located, and honours the history of the land and cultural practices of the community.
Gram Bella's welcomes you as artists, curious visitors, and neighbours seeking community and opportunities to connect, learn, and grow together.
